STORY
'The Pearl of the East' is a musical set in 2019, when the protests in Hong Kong were raging. It revolves around a 70-year-old grandmother sharing her story with her 8-year-old granddaughter. Through narration and song, she reveals her journey of illegally immigrating to Hong Kong on a boat with her family during the Cultural Revolution in the '60s, where her untold secret haunts her once again.

The musical was produced as part of Theatre Now's Sound Bites XI installment in 2024.
